Essentials to Keeping Your Teeth Healthy

Published on August 6th, 2018

You have been told over and over again to brush your teeth twice a day and floss at least once. These are both things you must do, but there are many more tasks that you can complete in order to keep your mouth healthy. Consult your Lakeview dentist at Chicago Family Dental Care for further information.

Toothbrush Maintenance

Toothbrush maintenance keeps your brush and mouth clean and healthy. Your toothbrush should be thoroughly rinsed and stored in an upright position. If your toothbrush is not stored in an open area, it can become a breeding ground for microorganisms. It is recommended to replace your toothbrush every three to four months in order to keep it clean and effective.

Tongue Brushing

In order to correct bad breath and remove bacteria from your mouth, make sure to scrub your tongue after you brush. There are tools specially designed for this, and some toothbrushes even feature a scrubber on the back of the brush head.

Communication

Your dentist and dental hygienist know everything there is to know about teeth, and they are there to help you. Visit your dentist for regular check-ups and ask any questions or state any concerns that you have about oral hygiene.

Beverages

Simply put, soft drinks and sugary juices are not good for your teeth and can cause tooth decay. Drinking less soda and sugary drinks will help protect your teeth.

Fluoride

Products with fluoride harden tooth enamel and therefore prevent cavities. Toothpaste, mouthwash and other treatments have fluoride in them that could improve your oral health.

Visit your Lakeview dentist at Chicago Family Dental Care to discuss the proper regimen for you.
